The Bateman's 2010
This year has brought volumes
But to condense it enough
I’ll write you a short poem
I hope it won’t be too tough.
I found out that I would be having another boy
I thought of diapers and crying but also the joy
Linden was born the 22nd of May
6 pounds 8 ounces, the c-section way.
Recovery was rough, to say the least
Without August, all peace would’ve ceased.
An economic blow
but a blessing in disguise
Caused August to be ‘let go’
From employment with a sigh.
We’ve worked hard on our yard
Finding “freebies” online
Digging and shoveling...its really hard!
We’ve planted a tree and some shrubs too
We enjoyed our first garden, with vegetables not a few.
Broccoli, Zucchini, pumpkins, and peas
It was so grand, we ate them with ease.
Sunflowers, peppers, beans, and tomatoes,
I wish we had tried out some sweet potatoes.
We planted various herbs and enjoyed strawberries from our patch
I can’t wait till next summer to eat from the batch.
We celebrated Bence turning two
With a dump truck cake that was yellow and blue.
Bence is so funny, he talks all the time.
I’ll tell you something he said but it won’t go with my rhyme
(“Daddy’s hair went bye-bye downstairs” note: August is thinning out).
We attempted potty-training and threw our hands in the air
Bence’s messes were just too much to bear.
Linden is growing, now almost 7 months old
He coos and smiles and is so fun to hold.
August is still looking for permanent work
Though we’ve been blessed with odd-jobs that he didn’t shirk.
I’m staying home taking care of the boys
I enjoy them although I’m tired of picking up toys.
The year has been good overall, I surmise.
We look forward to the next one and that’s not a lie!
Merry Christmas to you all, we hope you are well.
Enjoy the new year--banging on pots and sounding the bell.
